Many of our clients are told they need to “behave like a leader,” or have “greater executive presence.” But telling people to “be (or act) more confident” is little help. Fortunately, there are basic, specific, practical techniques that you can easily teach - in fact, there are nine levers of charisma that you can use to help people look, act, and, most importantly, feel, more powerful, confident and aligned with who they are at their deepest core, while generating business results.

Even before you practice Emotional Intelligence, you need to develop your reflective capacity to notice what passes into your thoughts and feelings in a non-critical way. Reflective Intelligence increases your ability to foster non-reactive empathy and use your presence to catalyze change.
Reflective Intelligence is especially useful when you don’t address an issue out of fear or you feel the urge to jump in and fix people. These impulses might arise from empathy, or you could be judging the person’s own capacity to think through their issues.
Strengthening your Reflective Intelligence will help you accept, appreciate, and encourage expression in others so they can freely explore their blocks and blind spots. Your clients will not only feel more trust and intimacy with you, they can more readily see a possible path forward. You can then use reflective techniques with your questions to help your clients recognize their own fears, judgments, and assumptions.
After exploring common fears and reactions that hinder success in coaching, this session will teach you how to use Reflective Intelligence to notice and release your urges and judgments. Once you “return to presence,” you can then use the three elements of Communication Kinesthetics – Intention, Emotions, and Regard – to help facilitate the client achieving a new awareness. We will end with ways to integrate reflection into the coaching competencies to create more breakthrough moments.

Imagine that you’ve just received a career-defining offer to join a high profile coaching team in another State. You will get to work virtually, or be paid to travel to big companies to work. It will take your career to the next level, seal your reputation, and it pays very well! They flatter you by telling how honored they’d be if you will join them. Needless to say, you are thrilled UNTIL ... you realize you CAN’T do it. They don’t know that California just changed its 1099 laws. If they want you to join their consulting or coaching business, they’ll have to make you a full- or part-time employee in their company. They aren’t prepared for the cost of that. Here’s a list of vital questions to start from:

Timi is a member of three coaching teams (one in Texas, one in Northern California and the other in San Diego). In the last 60 days of 2018, her project managers have converted her over to employee status after they gave all their California coaches a choice: do the W-4 paperwork or opt out and stop coaching for us. Timi started her coaching and consulting career in 1994. Off and on Timi has directly contracted and at other times been “payrolled” coach or executive through a staffing company. However, since 2011, Timi has only worked on 1099 status. Jennifer is an associate with Pettit Kohn Ingrassia Lutz & Dolin. Her practice focuses on employment and labor counseling and litigation. Jennifer helps employers manage the day-to-day issues arising in the employment context, craft and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance, and navigate the litigation process. She is currently sorting out and defending various law suits arising from the California Supreme Court’s 2018 decision to crack down on how companies assign 1099 and employee status. There have not been many court decisions or precedents decided over the changes yet, and are causing panic and confusion for many Californians. Jennifer earned her law degree at the University of California Los Angeles School of Law in 2013. Prior to law school, Jennifer attended UCLA, graduating summa cum laude, where she earned her Bachelor of Art’s degree in Anthropology. While attending law school, Jennifer was the Chief Managing Editor of Women’s Law Journal.

All while moving with her husband and two sons from Germany to Michigan in 2006, and again in 2013 to California, reinventing her- self, her business and brand multiple times. She is a past ICF-Germany Chapter President, ran her own coaching training school for seven years and was an official ICF mentor-coach for three years in Michigan. One of her graduates is the President of ICF-Germany. Sylvia
is called a “matriarch of the coaching industry” with countless publications in coaching best- sellers and industry magazines. Sylvia has presented six times at ICF conferences around the world. She is an adjunct faculty member of a Swiss business school teaching remote coaching. She received in 2014 the ICF-Midwest Leadership Award for her immense contributions to the coaching industry. Additionally, her articles have been published in “Choice” magazine, the largest international coaching magazine.
