Using Zoom for your Coaching and Consulting Business ... Tom Teague, PhD

Zoom.us provides an easy-to-use, affordable tool you can use to conduct and record live meetings with your clients and prospective clients using only your computer and the Internet. You can record social media or training videos, audiobooks, podcasts, and meetings with yourself, one other individual, or with a group of people. You can host and record group meetings, group training events like webinars, and group coaching sessions.  In addition to sharing ideas on how to use Zoom in your business, this session will cover the basics on how to use Zoom – set up, recording, screen sharing, participant management and chat.

Tom Teague has been using Skype since 2002, and has been using Zoom multiple times a week since 2015. In 2016, he produced the HEAL Summit.  The HEAL Summit was was a week-long series of live events consisting of recorded interviews (Zoom) with live Q&A (WebinarJam) for 17 holistic entrepreneurs and leaders from around the world for over 200 subscribers.

Coaches: Self-Employed or Employee?

Dramatic Changes to How Coaches Get Hired in California
Monday February 11, 2019

Imagine that you’ve just received a career-defining offer to join a high profile coaching team in another State. You will get to work virtually, or be paid to travel to big companies to work. It will take your career to the next level, seal your reputation, and it pays very well! They flatter you by telling how honored they’d be if you will join them. Needless to say, you are thrilled UNTIL ... you realize you CAN’T do it. They don’t know that California just changed its 1099 laws. If they want you to join their consulting or coaching business, they’ll have to make you a full- or part-time employee in their company. They aren’t prepared for the cost of that. Here’s a list of vital questions to start from:

  • Does it matter that the rules in other states may be different?
  • Does this ONLY affect California Coaches and Consultants?
  • Can you hedge your bets that the State of California won’t notice when you file your taxes?
  • Is there any way around this? Could the company “payroll” you and pass off the responsibility to employ so they enjoy your services? If a staffing agency can become your “Employer of Record,” who will cover that extra administrative cost?
  • Does this apply to your entire customer base? Or can you realistically toggle your career between Employee and 1099?
This program is a MUST ATTEND event for all coaches and consultants.

This significant change in the law will become a bigger topic in coming months and the years to come. You need to be prepared! Be the first to understand it and find new ways to adapt and protect your career and income.

 Coach Timi Gleason

Timi is a member of three coaching teams (one in Texas, one in Northern California and the other in San Diego). In the last 60 days of 2018, her project managers have converted her over to employee status after they gave all their California coaches a choice: do the W-4 paperwork or opt out and stop coaching for us. Timi started her coaching and consulting career in 1994. Off  and   on Timi has directly contracted and at other times been “payrolled” coach or executive through a staffing company. However, since 2011, Timi has only worked on 1099 status. Timi just lost access to two years of a five-year contract because the contract holder “didn’t want the administrative headache of hiring his coaching team as employees.” SDPCA’s 2020 Club Mastermind is Timi’s pro-bono contribution to a group of member coaches who are systematically transforming their lives and careers between the dates of July 1, 2017 - June 30, 2020.  Read more about Coach Timi Gleason...

Jennifer P. Suberlak, Esq., Associate

Jennifer is an associate with Pettit Kohn Ingrassia Lutz & Dolin. Her practice focuses on employment and labor counseling and litigation. Jennifer helps employers manage the day-to-day issues arising in the employment context, craft and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance, and navigate the litigation process. She is currently sorting out and defending various law suits arising from the California Supreme Court’s 2018 decision to crack down on how companies assign 1099 and employee status. There have not been many court decisions or precedents decided over the changes yet, and are causing panic and confusion for many Californians. Jennifer earned her law degree at the University of California Los Angeles School of Law in 2013. Prior to law school, Jennifer attended UCLA, graduating summa cum laude, where she earned her Bachelor of Art’s degree in Anthropology. While attending law school, Jennifer was the Chief Managing Editor of Women’s Law Journal.

Sylvia was the first German Professional Certified Coach (PCC) of the International Coach Federation (ICF) in 2002, and was the founder of the ICF-Germany Chapter. She has run a successful coaching practice since 1997 serving executives from different industries around the world as a pioneer in telephone coaching. All while moving with her husband and two sons from Germany to Michigan in 2006, and again in 2013 to California, reinventing her- self, her business and brand multiple times. She is a past ICF-Germany Chapter President, ran her own coaching training school for seven years and was an official ICF mentor-coach for three years in Michigan. A visitor to your website can be expected to stay about 8 seconds, unless…
You capture their attention to entice them stay a little longer and learn a little more.

Many traditional websites are passive. People might read the free content offered, but often don’t, because… well, because people are busy.
